Each family is expected to
provide a minimum of 14 hours of volunteer time per season. Many
folks spend many more hours than this helping the team so we can function.
Without our parent volunteers help, there would be no swim meets, and no team.
Below is a list of some of
the volunteer positions with a brief description of the activity involved.
Parent
Rep – Reps
are responsible for overall running of the swim team - organizing registration,
meets, social activities, and volunteers, as well as interacting with the Rocky
Mountain Swim League, South Suburban and coaches. There is an expectation of a
2-year commitment.
Announcer - Announces throughout the
meet which events are heating, makes general announcements, and gives scores
periodically.
Card
Parent –
Applies labels to deck cards prior to the meets (for both home and away meets)
Hands out cards to swimmers the morning of the meet.
Concessions - Helps with shopping for
items prior to the home meets, works at concession stand during meets, help set
up concession area the morning of the meet. Makes ice or pop runs during meet if
needed.
Donuts
– A very popular
volunteer with the swimmers! Arranges for donut pick up on Friday mornings,
sells donuts during Friday practice or arranges for another parent to sell. One
donut person needed per practice time slot each Friday.
Heater
- Works in
heating area keeping swimmers organized and ready to get to their events in an
orderly manner.
Hostess
– Delivers
refreshments to volunteers and coaches working the meet who can’t easily leave
the pool area, such as stroke judges, timers, etc. Food is provided by
concessions.
Photographer – Takes pictures at meets,
special events, prelims & finals. Also need one person to organize photos into a
presentation for the awards banquet at the end of the season.
Pool Set-up / Takedown
– Sets up tents, tables, deck ropes, removes the lower part of the slide and
generally readies the pool area for a home meet. There are shifts for set up
the night before and morning of the meet. Puts equipment away and cleans up the
pool area after the meet.
Referee/Starter – Assumes full control of
swimmers and starts each race. Also has full authority over all officials,
enforces all rules and decides all matters relating to the conduct of the swim
meet. Mandatory annual refresher clinic annually. Prerequisite: 2 years as
Stroke Judge.
Ribbon Writer – Applies labels on ribbons
after the meets and sorts them by age groups. This can be done at home. Also
arranges to get the labeled ribbons to the pool to be distributed.
Runner
– Picks up deck
cards from timers and delivers them to scoring table after each heat.
Scorers-
Inputs race
results into Meet Manager and posts results. Reviews deck cards and decides,
with other scorers, the correct finish for each race. Records scores for
individual events as well as a running score for each team.
Silent Auction – Organize auction fundraiser,
including gathering donations, creating bid sheets, ensure that winning bidders
receive items and collecting funds.
Special Projects—Available
for one-time projects.
Stroke Judge - Assures proper execution of
strokes and turns during meets. Must attend annual clinic or refresher course
(returning stroke judges). In order to stroke judge at Prelims and Finals,
judges must have 2 years of Stroke Judge experience.
Tent Transport –
Responsible for transporting and setting up team tent for away meets. Can be
shared job where one family takes and sets up, another takes tent down and
brings it back to Franklin.
Timer -
Times individual
and relay events with a stopwatch and records times on the deck cards at the end
of each heat. Checks entry cards to assure the event, swimmer, heat and lane
number are correct.
